County Pumps Celebrates 30 years Trading

County Pumps was born in a garage workshop in North Oxfordshire, the child of two Petroleum Engineers; determined to start a thriving business of their own. The first records show the very high standards used to recondition and rebuild their commercial pumps and how the two engineers were willing often to work without pay during the difficult first few months.

From the beginning, County Pumps has gone from strength to strength, gaining a reputation for high quality workmanship and sound, impartial advice for their customers. The well-trained, professional team of engineers, sales and administration staff is regarded of paramount importance, and with a third of the staff having worked for the company more than ten years, a sense of a family business pervades.

Regular staff meetings ensure good communication within County Pumps and allows an exchange of ideas for development and growth.

The company is now in expanded premises within a Shutford Industrial Estate, near Banbury. A showroom provides a venue for customers wishing to view the products, discuss new installations and designs, most importantly, to meet the member of staff they will be dealing with on their project. County Pumps continues to be independent, remaining unaffiliated to any particular manufacturer and thus able to recommend and provide the best possible product or application for the customer's individual needs.

A nationwide service is provided in the supply, installation and maintenance of all commercial diesel, petrol, gas oil pumps and tanks, together with tank cleaning and testing, electronic tank gauging and overfill valves, spill kits and all equipment and advice to ensure environmental regulations are being followed and Ad-blue equipment. One of their biggest achievements has been the emergency breakdown service, with a response within twenty-four hours, anywhere in the United Kingdom. Method Statements, Risk Assessments and reports are now all a routine part of procedures and regular courses on new legislation and their implementation are an integral part of staff training. Many of the most prestigious distribution and haulage companies now use County Pumps' services, together with local Councils, Fire and Rescue Services and Bus Companies.

The vast majority of the group customers use the benefits of the preventative maintenance programme, with planned routine service visits, written reports and a preferential response to breakdown requests. Their equipment is ensured a longer more productive life and site details on file help the County Pumps office staff to give informed advice.

Thirty years has seen many, many changes within the company and the industry; and undoubtedly the next thirty will see many more. Of one thing we can be sure, County Pumps will be celebrating then as they are now.

County Pumps Help Keystone Cut Fuel Costs

County Pumps recently installed two Hytek Alpha bio diesel pumps at Keystones Basingstoke depot, helping the company to dramatically cut their annual fuel bill. Keystone Distribution exclusively manages the complete supply chain and distribution to 1,200 McDonald’s restaurants throughout the UK.

The installation was undertaken by County Pumps, who selected the B100 bio diesel pumps along with suitable pipework, valving and stainless steel hose rewind systems approved by Hytek for use with B100.

The equipment was installed in a large free-standing cabinet offering additional security and equipment protection.

41 vehicles at Keystone’s Basingstoke distribution centre have been running on 100% bio diesel – converted from waste cooking oil from McDonald’s restaurants – for over a year. The conversion of the second fleet of 51 vehicles at the company’s Hemel Hempstead distribution centre is also planned.

By swapping diesel with bio fuel, Keystone estimates it will make substantial savings to costs by running the two fleets on the converted cooking oil rather than regular HGV diesel.

County Pumps Update re-fuelling facilities at SITA

County Pumps recently installed two new Hytek Alpha diesel pumps complete with a FC20 management system at SITA's Kensington site.

The works included a conversion of the existing unleaded tank to diesel. The unleaded tank had minimal usage so the decision was taken by SITA to carry out the conversion doubling their diesel storage capacity, giving improved buying power.

New hydrostatic Veeder Root gauges were fitted allowing fuel levels to be simply checked without the need for additional electrical cabling.

The FC20 management system communicates via. GSM modem giving wireless communications between the fuel island and office PC.

All re-fuelling data is available in a wide range of reporting formats suiting the individual user needs.

All works were completed over a three day period with minimal disruption to depot refuelling.

Peter Gray Sita site manager commented - "I would like to pass on my thanks and gratitude for an excellent job that was extremely well done and very professionally carried out. Please pass on my thanks to your engineers".
